WHAT IS COLD THERAPY AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
The most commonly prescribed treatment for post surgical joint recovery is cold therapy, also known as cryotherapy. By constricting blood vessels and slowing the flow of blood to a specific site, pain and swelling can be decreased. Cold therapy has also helped many physicians reduce the amount of post surgical narcotics they prescribe.

Cold therapy in conjunction with compression can greatly reduce inflammation at the surgical site and aid in tissue repair. By using continuous cold therapy, the length of time it takes to recover is drastically reduced.

In addition to those benefits, cold therapy has shown to improve post operative range of motion, which will help the recovering patient during physical therapy. These factors will allow for an easier transition to completing every day tasks, and ultimately contribute to positive short term outcomes.

Medical West Healthcare Center carries the Breg Polar Cube Cold Therapy Unit. The unit is lightweight, easy to use - and comes with everything needed to start the patient down the road to recovery. The cold therapy unit is designed to provide a continuous flow of ice cold water to the area of recovery for (up to) 6-8 hours.

The Breg Polar Cube will come with an ice/water cooler, an extra large multi use pad (which can be used for ankles, knees, hips, lower back, shoulders and elbows.
The unit also comes with compression straps for securing the multi use pad to the recovery site, as well as an AC adapter.
